FAQs
5 Call Types
Most people use the term "long distance" to describe any toll call not covered by their local phone service plan. In truth, there are five types of calls that a consumer needs to consider when researching phone service.

Local
A local call only requires that you dial a 7-digit telephone number. Your local service plan covers local calls.

Regional Toll
Any regional toll call requires that you dial "1" plus an area code before you dial the 7-digit telephone number. When you make a call to a destination outside your local calling area, but within your regional calling area, it is a regional toll call. Your Local phone service provider typically both provides and bills for your regional toll calls. However, in states where the Regional Toll market has been opened up to competition, you may now choose a carrier other than your local service provider to handle your Regional Toll Calls. This is known in the industry as "intraLATA presubscription." If you select a Regional Toll carrier other than your local service provider, you may receive a separate bill for these services. You may also incur a fee each time you switch your Regional Toll provider. You may check your Regional Toll Provider from your home phone by dialing 1-(your area code)-700-4141.

Intrastate
If your state has multiple regional calling areas, you may call from your regional calling area to another within your state. This is an intrastate call. Such a call also requires that you dial "1" plus an area code before you dial the 7-digit telephone number. Your long distance phone service provider carries intrastate calls. You may learn who your Intrastate Long Distance Provider is from your phone by dialing 1-700-555-4141.

Long Distance or Interstate
When you call another state, it is a long distance call. For long distance calls, you must dial "1" plus an area code before you dial the 7-digit telephone number. No matter where you live in the United States of America, you may choose your long distance phone service provider. You may check your Long Distance Provider from your phone by dialing 1-700-555-4141.

International
An international call is any toll call to a destination outside the borders of the lower 48 United States of America. You may check your International Long Distance Provider from your phone by dialing 1-700-555-4141. Voice Tech Systems will provide your business with local and long distance phone service plans that, combined, cover each of the five call types listed above.
